El Gallo Restaurant in Austin Set to Close Doors

Austin All My Sons Moving & Storage is sad to announce that long time running and family owned restaurant, El Gallo, will be closing their doors for good on January 29th. The family owned restaurant was opened in 1957 by Abraham and Maria Kennedy and was passed onto Abel after Maria passed away in the spring of 2015. El Gallo has been in business for a staggering 60 years.

There are a few reasons that contribute to the restaurant closing but Abel stated it was mostly due to rising expenses and property taxes. While they own the property, and have no debt or lien on it, they have decided to get out while they’re still ahead of the game.

Not only are tax prices doubling every year for the past five years, the death of Abel’s mother Maria in 2015 has had an effect on the company morale. It was said that Maria was the heart and soul of the restaurant and the place just isn’t the same without her. El Gallo’s loyal customers are also feeling the pain of the restaurant’s imminent closing. When long running restaurants like this, it is usually a sign of a much bigger problem the city faces; cost of living.

The Austin corporate relocation experts are no longer surprised when a South Congress restaurant closes, and leaves them to only speculate who the raising property taxes victims will be. El Gallo stayed true to their values and only raised their prices approximately fifty cents over the past five years. They never wanted to compromise the customer’s affordability for their own.
