For those who are contemplating a move to Austin in the near future, you can expect the area to see a healthy boost in affordable homes by the end of 2016 for the next 20 years!
All My Sons Moving & Storage Austin has learned that Brookfield Residential has approved plans to build a new housing development near McKinney Falls Parkway that consists of 2,500 acres. The new subdivision is located in close proximity to the airport and downtown, and will house 10,000 homes and apartments, as well as amenity areas.
“We think we’ve got a little diamond in the rough down here that’s really going to be great for Austin,” said Logan Kimble, Senior Development Manager for Brookfield Residential. Austin movers and local families sure hope so; if everything goes as planned, the creation of that many affordable homes will allow Austin to continue its growth and enable more families to move into the area.
Austin’s mayor, Steve Adler, explained that, “We were able to develop, for the first time, a way on an application like this from a property owner/developer to come up with a way to ensure permanent affordability.”
Perhaps the very best aspect about the new Austin housing development is that the city agreed to waive the fees associated with building the subdivision. The developer has also agreed to pay for it, taking the burden away from the local economy and residents.
If you are moving to Austin, the construction of these homes will begin in mid-2016. You can expect to see some of these houses going on the market by the end of the year. Homes will range from $150,000-$180,000 – perfect for families moving to Austin.
