Austin Local Movers – 512-443-3700

With all the hustle and bustle that comes with the holiday season, it can be easy to forget about the natural world around us. The holiday season is a time for giving and what better way to give than to give to nature. As your Austin movers are finishing up your move to Austin, check out some great ways to stay eco- friendly this holiday season.

We love to embrace the holidays with some great décor, after all, it gets us into the holiday spirit. Austin movers have taken up a tradition of decorating Ashe Juniper trees along highway 360. While this is a fun way to start the holidays, it can be very harmful to the environment. If you are set on decorating a cedar tree this year, make sure that you are doing your part to keep Texas beautiful – instead of using non-biodegradable decorations that will end up as litter or harm our environment, find eco-friendly alternatives. Many DIY projects that include threaded strings of walnuts and cranberries can be a great source of décor and help feed the animals.

After all is said and done, cleaning up after the holidays is a great way to get involved. Love the trees and love Austin by helping to take down any decorations remaining after the holidays. Keep Austin Beautiful is an organization that was established a few years ago to help clean up and restore the 360 highway. This event takes place on January 9, from 9-11 a.m. Volunteer and help maintain our beautiful eco-system after moving to Austin.

The Austin city movers realize that technology, innovation, and invention have helped facilitate the everyday chef into a culinary wiz. With the right tools and appliances, a mediocre home cook can be transformed into a modern, Emeril Lagasse. Technology has also allowed many unnecessary culinary inventions to pollute the market and has created a circus of kitchenware and appliances that make it almost impossible for the Austin home chef to navigate. All My Sons Moving & Storage of Austin knows that there are only a handful of kitchen tools worth investing in. Here are some of the gizmos and gadgets that the local Austin city movers have hand selected to find their way to your Austin kitchen.

  • Seasoned cast iron skillet- The season cast iron skillet is great for a quick sear or sauté that can also be thrown in the oven for a tasty casserole.
  • Fissler pressure cooker- This tool is very versatile and is great for making sauces, stocks, and bases for a plethora of dishes.
  • A dehydrator- One thing you should know about Texas is they love meat. One of the best investments for your Austin city home is a dehydrator which can make jerkies, fruit snacks, or sundried tomatoes.

Moving companies across the nation know that it is a hassle to move during winter. Not only is the winter supposed to be a time for friends and family, curling up in front of the fireplace, and relaxing and drinking hot cocoa all while watching Christmas classics on TV, but it is cold. Although Austin, TX is not as cold as other cities and states, with the average winter temperatures in the mid-fifties to mid-sixties, Austin movers want you to be aware of how you can prevent moving mishaps this winter.

All My Sons Moving & Storage Austin is a leading moving company in Austin and the surrounding areas. Over the past two to three years, our movers, as well as professional moving companies throughout the United States, have learned about the unfortunate events conducted by rogue moving companies – moving companies who are not in fact licensed or seasoned moving professionals, but rather a couple of men with a truck. In the event that you do not complete the following steps for preventing moving mishaps this winter, your belongings may end up damaged or stolen.

Research Austin movers. Go online and do ample research about moving companies in Austin. Your research should consist of first checking how long they have been in business, and then checking their reviews online. If they have no reviews and their website looks fairly incomplete, you can bet that they are a rogue moving company who has created a site to trap customers and either steal their belongings or hold them hostage until they are paid a ridiculous amount that is more than quoted.

Check their licensing and credentials. While you are conducting online research on Austin movers, be sure to check the BBB and FMCSA websites for complaints, lawsuits, and said licensing. If their website states that they handle interstate moves, then they have to be registered with the FMCSA with a USDOT number. If they don’t, then they are not licensed.

Documentation. Make sure that you sign your moving estimate and that the moving company gives you a copy, which is called a Bill of Lading or Moving Tariff. They should also give you a copy of the FMCSA’s: Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move.

Sure, Thanksgiving dinner is a meal that many look forward to year-round, but we don’t really look forward to our New Year’s resolution of burning off the calories from the holidays. If you are moving to Austin after Thanksgiving, you and your Austin movers will already be burning through those calories. If you are not, here are the Thanksgiving dinner items that have the most calories, so that you can cut down on servings or find alternatives.

Burn those Thanksgiving calories in Austin with these thoughtful turkey day hints from All My Sons Austin:

- Turkey and gravy. Yes, we know – how can you have Thanksgiving dinner without turkey and gravy? Well, you don’t have to, but here are some tips on how to cut down on the calories. A three-ounce serving has 125 calories. If you opt for dark meat the caloric count goes up – so stick to the slices of white meat. Love eating the skin? Eating the skin of turkey adds 26 calories.

- Thanksgiving ham. Smothered in brown sugar and pineapple or orange, roasted ham is a Thanksgiving dinner tradition just as much as turkey is. However, a three-ounce serving will cost you 133 calories, but is also higher in fat and salt than turkey, so you may want to just have turkey if you are watching your overall health.

- Stuffing. Let’s be real – stuffing is just chopped up bread with maybe some ground sausage and celery. One cup of stuffing with cost you 350 calories. Austin movers suggest replacing the ground sausage with ground chicken sausage in order to cut some calories out of this Thanksgiving staple dish.

- Mashed potatoes. Another Thanksgiving must-have side dish, you can burn the calories out of this side by using fat-free milk and/or mixing pureed steamed cauliflower to cut the calories while making your potatoes creamy.

For how to cut down the caloric index for all of your favorite Thanksgiving dishes, check out this special article from Carina Storrs and Viola Lanier on healthy Thanksgiving dishes and portions.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which means that if you are moving before the end of the year, you are most likely already prepping. If you are waiting until after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas to move to the amazing, bustling city of Austin, there are some priorities that you will not want to let fall by the wayside in the midst of all of the holiday celebrations.

It is never easy to move within a short two months, so the first item on your agenda is to hire a professional moving company in Austin to help you relocate, whether you are moving to or from Austin. Find a moving company that is well-known, well-established, has decent reviews, and the proper licensing. Receive only a free, in-home estimate and never settle for an online or quote via telephone.

Once you have found a reputable Austin mover, be sure to set your move date and receive the proper documentation for your move, such as a Bill of Lading or moving tariff and your FMCSA Rights & Responsibilities informational sheet.

If you have not hired a full-service Austin moving company, then be sure to pack your residence room-by-room so that it does not become overwhelming. You should have plenty of time in-between holidays to dedicate one day per room to pack.

Once all packing is finished, be sure to research online and choose your Austin utility companies. You will want to make sure that your services are set up before your move-in date.  There’s nothing quite like moving to Austin before Christmas in the cold, with no heat on!

The movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage Austin suggest that you complete your change of address, complete the forms to change your license, make arrangements for pets and children, pack all valuables to move yourself rather than with your mover, and make sure that your Austin movers have your new address and cellphone number in case they need directions.

Pflugerville, TX

Pfor Pflugervillers Pfew Pfear Phonetic Pfun. Some may not understand the playful culture of Pflugerville, but it’s simply a fantastic place to live and work. A very Texan city, Pflugerville’s local claim to fame is its German influenced culture and the quirky name it provides. Settled first by Henry Pfluger Sr., the community grew slowly till the MKT railroad passed by in 1904. The brief boom lasted till the great depression forced many to seek work in Austin.

1965 marks the rise of modern Pflugerville, with the city’s incorporation, whose population eventually increased by six or seven thousand percent from 1980 to today. The new population has embraced the city’s heritage fully, with the Deutschen Pfest pfestival honoring German culture and just about any sign of the letter ‘f’ being preceded by a ‘p.’ This includes the Pflugerville Pfirecracker Pfestival, the Pfestive Pfarmer’s Market, and the Pfreeze Pflop among others.

Join this vibrant community. Move to Pflugerville today!

Any Texan knows that we’ve fared better in the recent economic downturn, but it’s more impressive than one may think. The Texan economy, between the sizes of the Canadian and Australian economies, increased real GSP by more than double the US federal improvement.

Job growth is also nearly double the national rate, thanks in part to Texas based Pledge To Hire and similar hiring initiatives. What does this mean for Austin businesses like All My Sons Moving & Storage?

It means hiring moving professionals, it means keeping our employees, and it means lower costs for Austin moving. If you’re planning a local move any time soon or a long distance move, call All My Sons Moving & Storage for a free quote. (512) 443-3700

Mack Brown at a press conference

Former head coach of the Texas Longhorns, Mac Brown, has found a new home. No, not a physical home – as he still maintains his permanent residence at his home in Austin – but a home that will help him pay his mortgage.

This past week Mack Brown agreed to a deal with ESPN that will put Mack Brown on screen, but this time as a College Football analyst. Brown is not a complete stranger to the TV screen as he hosted many segments on the Longhorn Network since the TV Station launched in 2011.

Mack Brown stepped down as the head coach of UT this last December with a career record of 244-122-1, including a National Title in 2005.

While many people speculated whether he would try to coach again, it appears as if our fellow Austinite has moved on from the sideline and will be settling in to a new home at ESPN.
