Department of Defense Expanding in Austin, Texas

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter recently announced the Department of Defense will be establishing a hub in Austin Texas to address its security challenges. The goal of this hub, called Defense Innovation Unit Experimental, or DIUx is to reestablish a strong connection between the Pentagon and the ever- changing American technological community to face advancing security threats. Ash Carter, the DOD and the Pentagon all recognize the development and the value in America’s innovative technology community, and how critical it is to building new strategies for the Pentagon and Military to incorporate. Austin movers say the goal of the DOD is for DIUx hub in Austin to establish working connections with these technology community members.

The new DIUx hub in Austin will be the third hub nationwide, with two others existing in Silicon Valley and Boston.

Ash Carter’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Afghanistan Christy Abizaid will be running the new DIUx hub in Austin, with the help of DIUx managing partner Raj Shah. The facility will be assisted by National Guard Members and reservists. The expansion of DIUx in Austin is partly in consideration to the Reservists in which Carter trusts and claims “…many of these patriots are tech industry leaders when they’re not on duty”.

Ash Carter has expressed his confidence in the city of Austin’s ability to combine its knowledgeable recent graduates with its scientific and technological innovations to promote technological advances for the Department of Defense.

Austin movers say the state of Texas is home to a fair percentage of the nation’s military, their families, and military veterans. With a growing population and bases all over the state, Carter believes the institutions and military ties in Austin will add to strengthen the technological bond with the Pentagon.

Based off the success of the new DIUx hub in Austin, the DOD has expressed plans to build similar hubs nationwide.
